THE HUMMING GIRL (SHORT HORROR FILM 2017)
You're all alone when suddenly you hear humming coming from somewhere in the house...
This film was created for the #MyAnnabelleCreation short horror film competition. Shanil's favourite director, David Sandberg, challenged filmmakers from all around the world to come up with a 2 minute short horror film that can live within the Conjuring Universe. The film was made in under 14 days.

Q&A WITH SHANIL KAWOL
WHY DID YOU DECIDE ENTER THE COMPETITION?
My role model in low budget filmmaking is David Sandberg. His craft in low budget short films shows people how you can create effective shorts with no budget at all. I have learnt a lot from his style for my own films whether they are horror or not. I wanted to take this opportunity to get our film in front of David Sandberg who is judging this competition.
DID ANYTHING SPOOKY HAPPEN ON SET?
No, but I did do something really stupid which cost us a lot of precious time and I had to come back the next day to finish the film! Basically, I was letting Geena into the house who went to buy lunch. This was my first time at the property and I didn't know the front door will shut automatically if you don't hold it open.. So we were locked out! I luckily still had the keys to my car and we drove to the nearest housemate to retrieve another set of house keys to open the door... It was a total nightmare but we managed to finished the film in the end!
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST SCENE TO MAKE?
Although it may look simple in the film, lighting the footprints in the corridor at night took us a very long time to figure out! There were several problems such as the footprints not showing up on camera, the lights showing in the frame, the light being too strong etc.
DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT?
Yes, we used 70 black bin bags to cover all the windows in the house for day for night filming.
