ALONE IN THE HOUSE (SHORT HORROR FILM 2016)
What would you do if you were home alone in the middle of the night and heard banging at your closed bedroom door? Emma is paranoid from hearing strange noises while alone in the house. When no one believes what you hear, how do you cope with your own fear?
Shanil Kawol was keen to produce an impactful horror short for Halloween 2016. With access to better technology and special effects Shanil was determined to up the antics from his previous 2 horror shorts Disturbed (2012) and Broken Bones (2015). Inspired by David Sandberg's horror shorts on Vimeo, Shanil developed a simple concept with the help of writer John Cowdell.

Q&A WITH SHANIL KAWOL
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO MAKE A SHORT HORROR FILM?
Halloween was coming up and I decided I wanted to scare people.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE ONE OBSTACLE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME WHILE MAKING THIS FILM?
It was challenging to find a big, spacious house for a horror film in London. The film was shot in a refurbished Victorian House in Lincoln which I found via Airbnb. This place was amazing, it had everything you would expect in a 'haunted house' including a basement, rocking chair and large spacious bedrooms.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON YOU LEARNED FROM MAKING THIS FILM?
Plan properly and realistically. Even though I did have a solid production plan in place, there are things outside your control which can delay your plan like waiting for a table at Nandos! Try and think of every eventuality beforehand and plan ahead so you don't get left behind. Do not underestimate the amount of time it takes to make a film. Luckily I split the shooting of a 4 minute film over 2 days which was almost still not enough!
DO YOU HAVE A PASSION PROJECT THAT YOU'RE DETERMINED TO DIRECT?
I am considering making a low budget feature film in 2018 if and only if I have an amazing story to tell. I am heavily influenced by Hollywood and Bollywood films so maybe they might be a crossover... who knows... you'll just have to wait and see...
